Attempting to find cheap or free parking on the streets of the Sydney CBD is often considered pointless.
High prices combined with the time-consuming task of scanning the streets to find on-street parking is an exercise that many drivers would be unfortunately familiar with. While councils usually discourage parking in the city, public transport is struggling to keep up with the growing number of visitors to the CBD.
Many streets in the Sydney CBD are often exclusively reserved for loading zones during the work week. When there is street parking available, it’s usually $7.20 per hour for a maximum of 2 hours during work hours (8am - 6pm), and then 4 hours maximum after 6pm at $3.90 per hour. The off-peak rate of $3.90 also applies on weekends.
But don’t lose hope.
You can find free parking in the CBD if you know where to look. With the help of Modii (formerly Spot Parking) you’ll know where all the hidden parking spots are in the Sydney CBD.
Check out our Parking Finder where you can find on-street parking in Sydney CBD, Pyrmont, Surry Hills and Redfern. Our Parking Finder shows you the current parking rules for paid parking, free parking and disabled parking. You can also find what the future parking rules will be and what the parking rate is at a certain period of time.
If you can’t find street parking, a great option for off-street parking is Share with Oscar. You can reserve parking in advance on their platform with daily rates in the city starting from just $20/day. The platform lists private spaces such as hotel parking at discounted prices compared to traditional car parks. Book here.
